Eighteenth Judicial District Court Rule 1.6
Rule 1.6. Counsel to Abide by Ethics Code
All persons practicing before the Court, whether lawyer or pro se, shall have read and abide by the current Oklahoma Rules of Professional Conduct.
The Judiciary and Counsel appearing within Judicial District 18 shall at all times be bound by the following general principles of Professionalism and Civility that are necessary to maintain the integrity of the District Court system:
A. We are all Officers of the Court and all statements made by Court and Counsel during the course of any Judicial proceeding or within any pleading filed in any Case shall be made as an Officer of the Court.
B. Counsel shall at all times extend mutual respect and consideration to each other during the course of any Judicial proceeding within District 18. Personal likes and/or dislikes shall at all times be set aside and shall not in any way affect Case administration by the Court or Counsel and/or case presentation to the Court.
C. Court and Counsel shall extend to each other at all times the same level of respect and consideration they each and all desire to receive themselves, individually and collectively.
D. Bickering, pettiness and squabbling shall not be tolerated during any court proceeding.
E. Punctuality and brevity are virtues appreciated by Judges and Jurors.
F. Arguments shall be addressed to the Court and not to opposing counsel.
G. Stand when talking to the Court or when addressed by the Court.
H. The examination of a witness shall be from the lectern unless permission is granted otherwise. Do not approach a witness without obtaining permission of the Court.
I. Do not approach the bench unless you have obtained permission.
J. Do not approach the jury box unless you have obtained permission.
K. Do not sit on counsel table.
L. Do not hold conferences in courtroom when Court is in session.
M. Advise your clients of the ethical impropriety of discussing pending matters with a Judge.
N. You do not have to obtain permission to be excused once your case is completed. Please depart quietly.
