Rule 1.4. Courtrooms
No courtroom shall be used for any purpose other than the transaction of Court business unless permission is first obtained from the Judge regularly using that Courtroom, or in his/her absence, the District Judge.
Eating, drinking (except water) or the use of tobacco products in any form is forbidden in any Courtroom.
Any cell phones brought into the courtroom shall be turned off or on silent and shall not be used in any way that is a distraction to the Court, counsel or jurors.
The use of cameras, television, recording and broadcasting equipment is prohibited in the courtrooms without prior permission of the Court. Outside the courtroom, media representatives shall exercise diligence to insure that such equipment and its use does not interfere with the business of the Court.
Attorneys are officers of the Court and should dress accordingly. Professional attire, including a coat and tie for men (with an exception for coats only during the summer months), and appropriate footwear is required in all court appearances. The wearing of jeans, t-shirts, tennis shoes, shorts and other casual or athletic clothing is not permitted as a normal course of business. Attorneys failing to comply with this rule will not be permitted to appear at bar and argue in the courtroom.
