I. General

Twenty-Fifth Judicial District Court Rule 1
Rule 1. Courtrooms
No courtroom shall be used for any purpose other than the transaction of Court business unless permission is first obtained from the judge regularly using that courtroom, or in his/her absence, the District Judge.
No gun, knife or other potentially offensive weapon is permitted in the courtroom unless provided otherwise by Oklahoma law. Further, anyone entering the courtroom is subject to having their person and/or belongings thoroughly searched by a bailiff and/or law enforcement officer.
Eating, drinking (except water) or the use of tobacco products in any form is forbidden in any courtroom. A judge may grant permission for jurors to have another drink (i.e., coffee or sodas) during a lengthy trial.
The use of cell phones and/or any other electronic device, in any courtroom without prior permission of the judge is not allowed. All devices are to be turned off upon entering the courtroom and shall not be used at any time by anyone while in the courtroom unless by express permission of the presiding judge. Under no circumstances will electronic devices be permitted in the jury deliberation room by jurors during their deliberations.
The use of cameras, television, recording and broadcasting equipment is prohibited in the courtroom without prior permission of the presiding judge. Outside the courtroom, media representatives shall exercise diligence to insure that such equipment and its use does not interfere with the business of the Court.
Attorneys are officers of the Court and should dress accordingly. Professional attire for male attorneys shall include a coat and tie, except coats are not required between Memorial Day and Labor Day, unless a jury is seated to hear a matter. Female attorneys are permitted to wear slacks. Females are not required to wear suit coats or jackets provided they are wearing a professional blouse or sweater. No attorney may wear jeans, golf shirts, tennis shoes, shorts or other casual or athletic clothing.
Attorneys failing to comply with this rule will not be permitted to appear at bar and argue in the courtroom. All attorneys shall comply with the following guidelines:
1. Be punctual.
2. Be brief in your presentations.
3. Stand when addressing the Court and use the lectern.
4. Do not sit on counsel table, rails or chair arms.
5. Do not approach the bench without permission of the Court.
6. Preserve a dignified appearance and help maintain order and decorum.
7. Advise your clients not to contact Judges concerning pending matters.
8. Do not seek ex-parte conversations with the Judge about any pending case.
