The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is issuing a Request for Applications (RFA) to solicit applications for awards to support the operations and enhancement of New York State's public forensic laboratories.
Subject to State appropriation authority, approximately $3.6 million in funding is available for awards to New York State's county and city operated forensic laboratories as set forth in New York State Executive Law § 995 (1) and (2) and which are accredited by either the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors / Laboratory Accreditation Board or the American Board of Forensic Toxicology. Contracts will be awarded for a period of 12 months beginning July 1, 2010 and ending June 30, 2011.
Applications received on or before 12:00 Noon (EDT) May 7, 2010 via DCJS' on-line Grants Management System (GMS) will be accepted.

NYS DNA Laboratory Capacity Enhancement (2010 - 2011)
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is issuing a Request for Applications (RFA) to solicit applications for awards to enhance the ability of local Forensic DNA labs to process evidence for DNA within an average 30-day turnaround time. Subject to State appropriation authority, approximately $3.6 million is available for awards. Contracts will be awarded for a period of 12 months beginning July 1, 2010 and ending June 30, 2011.
The following local Forensic DNA labs are eligible to apply: Erie County Department of Central Police Services Forensic Laboratory, Monroe County Public Safety Laboratory, Nassau County Department of Forensic Genetics, New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Department of Forensic Biology, Onondaga County Center for Forensic Sciences, Suffolk County Crime Laboratory and Westchester County Department of Laboratories & Research Forensic Science Laboratory.

2010 Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Reduction Strategy Grant Program
The NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit applications for the 2010 Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Reduction Strategy Grant Program. This grant program is supported by federal Juvenile Justice Title II (formula) funds. Eligible applicants include not-for-profit agencies, state agencies and units of local government in localities with significant minority populations and with demonstrated disproportionate minority contact within their juvenile justice system. A unit of local government is defined as any city, county, town, borough, parish, village, or other general purposes political subdivision of a State, and any Native American Nation which performs law enforcement functions as determined by the Secretary of the Interior. Subject to the availability of funding, approximately $200,000 is available for award to support approximately two local DMC Reduction Strategy Development projects. Awards will be made for a 12-month period.

Recovery Act Byrne / JAG Equipment Grant Program
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit applications from eligible units of local government for grant awards to support the acquisition of equipment that will support local law enforcement efforts to effectively and efficiently reduce the incidence of local crime and violence. Additional eligibility requirements are outlined in the RFP. Subject to State appropriation authority, approximately $500,000 will be available for awards.
Applications must be submitted via DCJS' on-line Grants Management System (GMS) by 12:00 noon, April 30, 2010 or prior to the last date of each subsequent month until all funds have been awarded.

FIRE COMPANIES
Rural Volunteer Fire Assistance
Pursuant to the Agriculture Appropriations Act, Section 7(b)3 of P.L. 95-313 (Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978), the Department of Environmental Conservation hereby gives notice of the following:
The Department of Environmental Conservation will administer the Volunteer Fire Assistance matching grant to assist rural fire companies in the purchase of fire suppression equipment. Applications will be accepted through May 15, 2010.
It is expected that $450,000 in federal funding will be available to award fire companies matching grants for the purchase of wildland fire suppression equipment and wildland fire suppression safety equipment. Grants are based on federal guidelines and are for use in fire districts serving a rural area or a rural community with a population of 10,000 or less.
Applications are scored on population, the I.S.O Fire Prevention Insurance rating, the date of the last VFA grant received and the presence of Native American communities in the district.
