PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITH APPROVED COMPREHENSIVE PLANS UNDER COMMISSIONER'S REGULATIONS PART 154 FOR MIDDLE AND/OR HIGH SCHOOLS
Bilingual Education/English as a Second Language Supplementary Intervention Grant
Competitive grant funds totaling approximately $700,000 are available to public school districts with approved Comprehensive Plans under Commissioner's Regulations Part 154 to support Bilingual/English as a Second Language (ESL) Supplementary Intervention Programs in middle schools and/or high schools.
The programs must take place outside of the regular school hours in middle and or high schools and prepare Limited English Proficient/English Language Learners to pass the examinations required for promotion and graduation. The program should also have a parent involvement and staff development component.

Completed applications for funding must be submitted to the New York State Education Department postmarked by September 15, 2008. Approximately $700,000 is available for grants for the development, implementation, and operation of charter schools.
Funds may be used for costs associated with the acquisition, renovation, or construction of school facilities.

ADULT HOMES, ENRICHED HOUSING PROGRAMS AND RESIDENCES FOR ADULTS LICENSED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
Enhancing Abilities and Life Experience Program (EnAbLE)
Eligible applicants include Adult Homes, Enriched Housing Programs and Residences for Adults licensed by the Department pursuant to Article 7 of the Social Services Law and Title 18 (Part 485) of the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations. Applications must be submitted to Ms. Valerie Giroux at the address below by 4:00 pm on September 29, 2008.
The Request for Applications (RFA) seeks innovative methods to improve independence and quality of life for residents in Adult Homes, Enriched Housing Programs and Residences for Adults. These methods can include, but are not limited to: independent living skills training, increased opportunities to participate in community activities and social opportunities, maintaining memory, or engaging in supervised activity to improve physical condition and reduce falls or injuries.
Any contracts awarded through this RFA will have a two year term. The maximum award is $300,000 ($150,000 per year of the contract). Applications will compete based on technical components and cost of the application, as detailed in the RFA.

NYS Department of Labor Educator Internship Pilot Program for School Counselors and Teachers
The Department of Labor (NYSDOL) is now accepting applications from middle and high school counselors and teachers to participate in a three-week summer internship program supported by federal Wagner-Peyser Act funding that includes an overview of the services provided by the NYSDOL to support and assist youth in making career decisions, finding education and training and locating employment. Zoos, Botanical Gardens and Aquarium Program
At the present time, there are two categories within the Zoos, Botanical Gardens and Aquarium Program under which funds may be requested. Category I, Collections Care Costs, is funding for expenses directly related to the care, security and interpretation of the collections. Category II, Special Purposes, is funding for the development of new exhibits or the rehabilitation of existing exhibits for the permanent collections and for new, innovative projects or programs for the institution.
Competitive applications to receive aid are required and must be postmarked no later than September 26, 2008. Funding for local assistance grants is made available through an appropriation from the State's Environmental Protection Fund.

Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Traumatic Brain Injury (PATBI) Program
As the administering agency for the PATBI program, CQCAPD is announcing the availability of federal funding to establish a five-year contract for the period February 1, 2009 — January 31, 2014 with a not-for-profit organization to provide legal and non-legal advocacy services throughout New York State.
Program Summary — Pursuant to funding made available through the reauthorization of the federal TBI program in the Children's Health Act of 2000, CQCAPD is seeking to establish one PATBI program office to provide limited, culturally competent statewide legal and non-legal advocacy services for persons with traumatic brain injury. Typical examples of such advocacy services are assistance with special education matters; public entitlements; insurance-related matters; rights under Home and Community-Based Waiver; rights under federal law; ownership and parental issues; and information, referral, and training. To be eligible for funding under this program, applicants must:
Requirements — To be eligible for funding under this program, grantee must: (1) be a public or private not-for-profit organization, independent of any public or private agency that provides treatment or rehabilitation services to persons with traumatic brain injury; (2) have been in existence for a minimum of 18 months; (3) currently offer information and referral, individual case advocacy, and systems advocacy; (4) currently serve persons with traumatic brain injury; and, (5) be willing to serve persons with traumatic brain injury, regardless of their age, income level, type or severity of disabilities, or organizational membership.
It is anticipated that a total of approximately $80,185 will be available during the first one-year contract period of February 1, 2009 — January 31, 2010. Funding amounts for years two-five of the five-year term will be subject to the availability of federal program funds.
A Request for Proposals (RFP) is expected to be released on August 1, 2008. Due date for receipt of proposals is October 3, 2008. Subcontracting will not be allowed without the express written approval of CQCAPD.
