Diagnostic Screening for Students who are New Entrants or who have Low Test Scores in Reading or Mathematics
PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE State Administrative Procedure Act, NOTICE is hereby given of the following action:
Action taken:
Amendment of Part 117 of Title 8 NYCRR.
Statutory authority:
Education Law, sections 101 (not subdivided), 207 (not subdivided), 3208(5) and 4403(3)
Subject:
Diagnostic screening for students who are new entrants or who have low test scores in reading or mathematics.
Purpose:
To provide for the diagnostic screening of students who are new entrants to school or who have low test scores on the statewide reading or mathematics assessments; and provide consistency between definitions in Part 117 and other provisions of the commissioner's regulations, specifically, conforming the definition of “handicapping condition” to the definitions of a “preschool student with a disability” and a “student with a disability”.
