§ 5-525. Establishment and operation of educational television and broadcasting facilities
Whenever funds become available from any source whatever for the purpose of (1) establishing and where necessary operating such pilot educational television projects, (2) purchasing, producing and contracting for the purchase or production of tapes, films and recordings for educational broadcasting, (3) making special grants to school districts, county boards of school directors and State colleges for educational broadcasting services procured by them where it is determined by the Department of Public Instruction1 that the awarding of such special grants will materially encourage the use of educational television facilities, (4) establishing educational television facilities in accordance with the State plan for educational broadcasting, and (5) establishing network facilities to link educational broadcasting facilities as may be required by the State plan for educational broadcasting or any of these purposes, the Department of Public Instruction may expend such funds for such purpose or purposes in amounts to be determined by the Department of Public Instruction in accordance with policies approved by the State Board of Education. This section shall not be construed to authorize the expenditure of any State funds for such purposes unless specifically appropriated by the General Assembly.
