§ 144. Mayor, recorder, and aldermen of Pittsburgh
The mayor, recorder and aldermen, or any of them, shall and may take and receive the acknowledgment and probate of all deeds and written instruments, and receive the legal fees therefor, which acknowledgments and probates shall be as valid, and have the like force and effect, as if the same were acknowledged before a judge of the supreme court, or any judge of the court of common pleas within this commonwealth.
