§ 2604. State Workers' Insurance Fund
Certain sums to be paid by employers, as provided in this article, are hereby continued as a fund, hereafter to be known as the State Workers' Insurance Fund, for the purpose of insuring such employers against liability under Article III of this act and of assuring the payment of the compensation therein provided and for the purpose of insuring such employers against liability under the Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969 (Public Law 91-173, 30 U.S.C. § 801 et seq.) and the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act (44 Stat. 1424, 33 U.S.C. § 901 et seq.) and of assuring the payment of benefits therein provided and further for the purpose of insuring such employers against liability for all sums such employer shall become legally obligated to pay any employe of his as damages because of bodily injury by accident or disease, including death at any time resulting therefrom, sustained by such employe arising out of and in the course of his employment. Such fund shall be administered by the board, without liability on the part of the Commonwealth, except as provided in this article, beyond the amount thereof, and shall be applied to the payment of such compensation.
