Fifty-Eighth Legislature, 2022 Second Regular Session
H.Res.No. 1050
PROCLAIMING APRIL AS NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH
A Resolution proclaiming April as National Donate Life Month.
WHEREAS, there are more than one hundred six thousand people on the national organ transplant waiting list, and more than six hundred forty-five of these individuals are in the State of Oklahoma and the list is increasing; and
WHEREAS, on average, one person is added to the national organ transplant waiting list every ten (10) minutes, and on average, twenty-two people die every day because the organs they need are not available; and
WHEREAS, the need for organ donations greatly exceeds the supply available and will likely increase in the coming years; and
WHEREAS, more than one million tissue transplants are done each year in the United States and the surgical need for tissue has been steadily rising; and
WHEREAS, the need for a more diverse donor pool, including a variety of racial and ethnic groups, will continue to grow in the coming years; and
WHEREAS, many Americans have indicated a willingness to donate their organs and tissues but have not discussed this critical matter with their family members; and
WHEREAS, the final decision regarding whether a potential donor will share the gift of life is often made by surviving family members regardless of the potential donor's intent; and
WHEREAS, National Donate Life Month is both a national observance to raise awareness of the critical need for organ and tissue donation, and the most effective way to address this health crisis is to educate and encourage citizens on ways they can register to donate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 58TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT April 1 through April 30, 2022, is hereby proclaimed to be National Donate Life Month so that someday we all may be able to provide a fellow Oklahoman a second chance at life.
Adopted by the House of Representatives the 13th day of April, 2022.
Filed with the Secretary of State April 14, 2022.
