EXPRESSING GRATITUDE TO SENATOR KIM DAVID FOR HER SERVICE IN THE OKLAHOMA STATE SENATE
A Resolution expressing gratitude to Senator Kim David for her service in the Oklahoma State Senate; and directing distribution.
WHEREAS, Senator Kim David is completing her 12th year of service to the State of Oklahoma and the citizens of Senate District 18 in the Oklahoma State Senate; and
WHEREAS, first elected in 2010, Senator David's tenure in the upper chamber has been historic, being the first Republican woman to serve as Senate Majority Whip, the first woman from either party to serve as Senate Appropriations Chair, and the first woman since statehood to be named Senate Majority Floor Leader; and
WHEREAS, along with her standing committees, David has also served as the chair of the Grand River Dam Authority Legislative Task Force; vice–chair of the Governor's Impaired Driving Prevention Advisory Council; and as a member of the Legislative Office of Fiscal Transparency Oversight Committee, the Joint Committee on Pandemic Relief Funding, the Oklahoma Hydrogen Task Force, the Unified State Law Enforcement Commission, and the Oklahoma State Tribal Affairs Council; and
WHEREAS, she has been a strong advocate for Oklahoma's law enforcement community, veterans, and first responders, helping improve their training and providing them better mental health support. She also authored laws providing comprehensive health care for the elderly while also protecting victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, child abuse, and stalking. She fought tirelessly for state employees, modernizing their benefit system and protecting the rights of nursing mothers at state agencies. Her work also created open carry, the Pay-for-Success program to help lower female incarceration, and the Impaired Driving Accountability Program; and
WHEREAS, State Question No. 632, adopted September 18, 1990, and effective January 1, 1991, limits the length of service for a member of the Legislature to a total of twelve years. As a result, Senator David will not be eligible to stand for reelection this year; and
WHEREAS, Senator David has proudly and diligently represented the voices of Cherokee, Mayes, Muskogee, Tulsa, and Wagoner Counties, and her professionalism and determination will be greatly missed at the Oklahoma Capitol and within the esteemed Senate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 58TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
THAT the Oklahoma State Senate, on behalf of the citizens of Senate District 18 and this great state, expresses its gratitude to Senator Kim David for her service in the Oklahoma State Senate.
THAT a copy of this resolution be distributed to Senator Kim David.
