GA #2007-01 New York State Transition to Teaching Project
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking applications for the support and preparation of teachers for the New York City School District. All New York State independent institutions of higher education (IHEs) that partner with the New York City Teaching Fellows Program are eligible to apply. NYSED has received a Federal Transition to Teaching Grant to support this project. This is the fifth year of the five-year grant. Note that awards do not continue from year to year. IHEs who received awards as a result of the 2006 competition must compete for funding in 2007. Having been a prior recipient will not positively or negatively influence an institution's opportunity for funding in this fifth year. Mandatory Requirements: The IHE must agree to the conditions found in the Mandatory Requirements for Participation section and must return the Mandatory Requirements for Participation sheet (Found in section 5. SUBMISSION DOCUMENTS) with the signature of the Chief Academic Officer. Applications that do not include this signed Mandatory Requirements for Participation sheet will not be considered for funding. Independent IHEs will be eligible to apply for this award pending continued Federal funding. Subcontracting will not be allowed. Information about the New York City Teaching Fellows Program can be found at www.nycteachingfellows.org.
In order to be eligible for funds under the New York State Transition to Teaching Project, the Chief Academic Officer of the independent institution of higher education (IHE) must attest to the following statements.
The IHE has an alternative teacher preparation (ATP) program that is registered with the New York State Education Department;
The ATP program includes introductory and in-service components with a duration of up to three (3) years and includes 1) support and coordination for New York City Teaching Fellows at their school sites by the institution or the NYCDOE field consulting vendor and 2) graduate education culminating in a master's degree or an advanced certificate;
The IHE agrees to provide appropriate academic and other support services within its registered programs as required by Commissioner's Regulations;
The IHE agrees to provide a representative to the Project Leadership Team; and
The IHE agrees that Teaching Fellows will not be discriminated against based on race, color, creed, sex, national origin, or disability.

Funding for 2007 — 2008 will be awarded to up to five independent IHEs to increase by a total of 100 the number of Teaching Fellows being prepared.
