54.5 Illness of or injury to pilot; return to duty.
A pilot who has been ill or injured to the extent that the pilot has been unable to perform pilotage duties for a period of 30 days or longer shall notify the board or arrange for it to be notified as soon as possible after the 30th day of the disability. A pilot shall not resume pilotage duties until the pilot has appeared before the board and received permission to return to work. A pilot applying for permission to return to work shall present to the board a statement from a personal physician indicating fitness for duty and a detailed evaluation of the pilot's physical condition from a physician selected by the association with which the pilot is affiliated. The board may also require the pilot to submit to an examination by a physician selected by it.
