54.1 In the Port of New York: Ending of pilot's services; assisting in docking or undocking; mooring or leaving mooring berth; and leaving a vessel underway.
In the Port of New York a pilot's services end and a pilot is entitled to discharge by the master of a vessel when the vessel has been brought to a safe anchorage, or to a position in the immediate vicinity of the berth to which the vessel is bound, unless the master formally requests the pilot to assist with the docking or mooring. Whenever so requested, the pilot shall assist with the docking or mooring. In an outbound vessel or a vessel being transported they may assist with the undocking or leaving a mooring berth if so requested. A pilot shall not leave a vessel underway unless the pilot has been properly relieved. The duties of a pilot in an outbound vessel or a vessel being transported commence when the mooring lines have been cast off and it is clear of its berth. If requested to do so the pilot shall supervise the maneuvering of a vessel away from its berth.
