43.5 Location of required lighting on vehicles less than 80 inches in width.
All vehicles less than 80 inches in width shall have required lighting located in conformity with table IV.

Tail lampsOn the rear—one on each side of the vertical centerline, at the same height, and as far apart as practicable.Not less than 15 inches, nor more than 72 inches.
Stop lampsOn the rear—one on each side of the vertical centerline, at the same height, and as far apart as practicable.Not less than 15 inches, nor more than 72 inches.
Number plate lampAt rear number plate, to illuminate the plate from the top or sides.No requirement.
Parking lampsOn the front—one on each side of the vertical centerline, at the same height, and as far apart as practicable.Not less than 15 inches, nor more than 72 inches.
Reflex reflectorsOn the rear—one red on each side of the vertical centerline, at the same height, and as far apart as practicable.Not less than 15 inches, nor more than 60 inches.
On each side—one red as far to the rear as practicable and one amber as far to the front as practicable.
Backup lampOn the rear.No requirement.
Turn—signal lamps*At or near the front—one amber on each side of the vertical centerline, at the same height, and as far apart as practicable.Not less than 15 inches, nor more than 83 inches.
On the rear—one red or amber on each side of the vertical centerline, at the same height, and as far apart as practicable.
Side marker lampsOn each side—one red as far to the rear as practicable, and one amber as far to the front as practicable.Not less than 15 inches.
Intermediate side marker lampsOn each side—one amber located at or near the midpoint between the front and rear side marker lamps.Not less than 15 inches.
Intermediate side marker reflectorsOn each side—one amber located at or near the midpoint between the front and rear side marker reflectors.Not less than 15 inches, nor more than 60 inches
*Front turn–signal lamps not required for trailers.
**On trailers less than 30 inches wide, the required lights and reflector shall be at or near the vertical centerline.
