4-12.8 Automatic—proved pilot.
If an automatic type oil-fired boiler is equipped with a proved pilot, regardless of the firing rate such pilot shall be proved within 15 seconds. The burner shall be so designed and installed that the main oil valve shall open only after the pilot is proved and either such pilot shall automatically shut off within 60 seconds after the main oil valve opens or the pilot sensing device shall be automatically de-energized. On any burner equipped with a proved pilot, regardless of firing rate the main flame trial-for-ignition shall not exceed 60 seconds and the main flame shall be continually supervised while the burner is firing. The electrical circuit to the main fuel valve shall be automatically de-energized within four seconds after flame failure and the de-energized valve shall close automatically within the next five seconds.
