1.17 Executive Order No. 17: [Directing Chief of Staff to order units of organized militia into active service to assist in preserving peace and protecting property in the County of Monroe and City of Rochester.]
I, Nelson A. Rockefeller, by virtue of authority invested in me as Governor under the Military Law of the State and upon the request of the Sheriff of Monroe County and the Mayor of the City of Rochester, do hereby direct by executive order that the Chief of Staff to the Governor order such units of the organized militia into the active service of the State as may be necessary to assist local civilian authorities in preserving the peace and in the protection of private and public property and otherwise guaranteeing the public safety in the County of Monroe and the City of Rochester.
1. Major General Almerin C. O'Hara, Chief of Staff to the Governor, is hereby appointed commander of all troops ordered into active State service in this emergency.
2. Units and members of the New York Army and New York Air National Guard and New York Naval Militia will immediately assemble at their local armories when ordered and will remain assembled pending further orders as to their disposition by the Chief of Staff to the Governor.
3. All enlistments, reenlistments or voluntary extension of enlistments which expire after July 26, 1964 and during the period of this emergency for which the unit member is being currently ordered into the active service of the State are hereby extended for the duration of this emergency.
4. Compensation of all officers and men while on such duty or assembled therefor in this emergency and all other expenses incurred in connection with such duty shall be paid by the respective community in accordance with the provisions of Section 212 of the Military Law.
