§ 13-936.1. Vintage plates; historic motor vehicles
Vintage registration plate defined
(a) In this section, “vintage registration plate” means a Maryland registration plate that was actually issued for display on a motor vehicle in a year not less than 25 years prior to January 1 of each calendar year.
Display of 2 vintage registration plates in lieu of current registration plates
(b) The owner of a motor vehicle registered under § 13-936 or § 13-937.1 of this subtitle as a Class L (historic) or Class N (street rod) vehicle may display two vintage registration plates in lieu of a current registration plate on that vehicle if:
(1) The owner of the motor vehicle submits an application on a form prescribed by the Administrator;
(2) The two vintage registration plates were issued in the same year as the model year of the motor vehicle; and
(3) The owner of the motor vehicle pays a onetime registration fee of $25.50.
Term and fee for display of vintage registration plates
(c) If the Administration authorizes the display of vintage registration plates under this section:
(1) The vintage registration plates shall remain valid for as long as title to the motor vehicle remains in the person who submitted an application under subsection (b)(1) of this section; and
(2) A fee in addition to the onetime registration fee prescribed in subsection (b)(3) of this section is not required for the issuance of the vintage registration plates.

HISTORICAL AND STATUTORY NOTES
2004 Legislation
Acts 2004, c. 9, § 1, in subsec. (b)(2)(iii), changed the fee from $13.50 to $25.50; and, in subsec. (c)(2), made a nonsubstantive change.
Acts 2004, c. 25, § 1, made technical corrections to the Code.
2015 Legislation
Acts 2015, c. 257, § 1, rewrote subsec. (b), which prior thereto read:
“(b)(1) Subject to the provisions of this subsection, the owner of a motor vehicle registered under § 13-936 or § 13-937.1 of this subtitle as a Class L (historic) or Class N (street rod) vehicle may display 2 vintage registration plates in lieu of current registration plates on that vehicle.
“(2) The Administration may authorize the display of 2 vintage registration plates in lieu of current registration plates on a motor vehicle described in paragraph (1) of this subsection if:
“(i) The owner of the motor vehicle submits an application on a form prescribed by the Administrator;
“(ii) The 2 vintage registration plates were issued in the same year as the model year of the motor vehicle; and
“(iii) The owner of the motor vehicle pays a onetime registration fee of $25.50.”
; in para. (c)(1), substituted “subsection (b)(1) of this section” for “subsection (b)(2)(i) of this section”; and in para. (c)(2), substituted “subsection (b)(3) of this section” for “subsection (b)(2)(iii) of this section”.
