Rule 14. General courtroom procedures and practices
14.01. No Smoking, Cell Phones, or Pagers.
There will be no more smoking permitted in the courtrooms or hallways of the respective judicial centers. The definition of smoking includes electronic cigarettes. Cell phones and pagers must be set in the silent or vibrate mode or be turned off so as not to create any nuisance or distraction in the courtroom.
14.02. Attire.
All persons attending court shall be dressed in appropriate clothing for the designated season. Shirts, pants, and shoes required. No house shoes, clothing with vulgar or explicit language, tank tops, or pajamas will be permitted. No head attire or hats are permitted in the courtroom unless worn for medical or religious purposes.
14.03. Weapons.
Weapons of any kind are not permitted in the courthouse or courtroom. Law enforcement may carry weapons as part of their official duties.
14.04. Children.
The presence of young children is strongly discouraged. If disruptive, children will be required to leave the premises. Patrons with young children will not be advanced on a docket, and the Court will not dismiss or delay a case because young children are present.
14.05. Attorney Bias.
No attorney shall by words or conduct manifest bias or prejudice, including but not limited to bias or prejudice based upon race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status as directed to parties, witnesses, counsel, court staff or others.
14.06. Code of Professional Courtesy.
This Court hereby adopts the Code of Professional Courtesy of the Kentucky Bar Association as may be amended from time to time.
14.07. Judicial, Staff, and Court Official Courtesy.
The Court hereby recognizes the Rules of the Kentucky Supreme Court in Canon 3.5(4). A judge shall be patient, dignified, and courteous to litigants, jurors, witnesses, lawyers, and others with whom the judge deals in an official capacity, and require similar conduct of lawyers and of staff, court officials and others subject to the judge's direction and control.
14.08. Official Record.
The Official Record of the Woodford, Bourbon, and Scott District Court shall be made on either video or audio recording, whichever is more readily available and in working condition.
