SCR 3.390 Notice to client of suspension or disbarment
(a) Any order suspending a lawyer from the practice of law, other than an order of suspension under SCR 3.165 or 3.166, shall take effect on the tenth (10th) day following its entry unless otherwise provided within the order. The suspended lawyer shall promptly take all reasonable steps to protect the interests of the lawyer's clients. A lawyer suspended from the practice of law shall not during the term of suspension accept new clients or collect unearned fees, and shall comply with the provisions of SCR 3.130-7.50(5).
(b) Within 10 days after the issuance of an order of disbarment, or suspension under SCR 3.050 or SCR 3.675(4), or upon issuance of an order of suspension from the practice of law for more than 60 days, the disbarred or suspended lawyer shall notify, by letter duly placed with the United States Postal Service, all courts or other tribunals in which that lawyer has matters pending, and all clients of the lawyer's inability to represent them and of the necessity and urgency of promptly retaining new counsel. The lawyer shall simultaneously provide a copy of all such letters of notification to the Office of Bar Counsel. Upon issuance of an order of disbarment or suspension, the affected lawyer shall immediately cancel any pending advertisements, to the extent possible, and shall terminate any advertising activity for the duration of the term of suspension or disbarment.
