Rule 2.1. Assignment of Case Numbers and Consolidation
a. Case Number Assignment. The Clerk of the Superior Court shall assign a number to every case filed with the court.
b. Habeas Corpus.
(1) Each habeas corpus matter referred to this court by the Arizona Supreme Court shall be docketed by the clerk and such matter shall be assigned the next succeeding civil case number. All further proceedings shall be conducted under such number.
(2) Habeas corpus proceedings commenced in this court and not ancillary to a criminal, juvenile or domestic relations proceeding shall be docketed as civil cases. (See Rule 2.11(c) of these rules for the assignment of habeas corpus cases).
c. Case Consolidation. Unless the court shall otherwise order, when two (2) or more cases are consolidated, the Clerk of the Superior Court shall regard the number of the case filed first as the controlling number of the consolidated cases and all further pleadings and papers shall be filed and docketed under that number only. Unless the court shall otherwise specify, it will be presumed that the consolidation is for all purposes, and not merely for the purpose of trial. Motions to consolidate shall be heard by the judge to whom the earliest-filed case is assigned unless otherwise assigned by the Presiding Judge.
