007.10.32-IV. Copper Poisoning-Protection from Contamination.
Copper in the presence of the lactic acid of yogurt may result in copper poisoning. No product contact surfaces made of copper, copper alloy or plated copper shall be used in processing yogurt products.
All counter freezer equipment used in processing Frozen Yogurt Mix should be used only for Frozen Yogurt Mix. Contamination likely will result in freezing ice milk or ice cream mix in equipment that has recently processed Frozen Yogurt Mix. Counter freezer product contact surfaces coming in contact with Frozen Yogurt Mix shall be washed, rinsed and subjected to a bactericidal treatment, following step by step procedure found on page 5, Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Milk and Milk Products, immediately before processing ice milk or ice cream mix.
