007.10.6-4. Bulk Milk Transportation
The truck transport tank used for collecting milk shall meet 3-A Sanitary Standards for milk transport tanks. The tank truck shall be equipped with a refrigerated box, or compartment, which shall be used for storing and transporting samples. All such samples shall be maintained at a temperature of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, or lower, at all times. The tank shall be equipped with a dust-tight hose compartment. Loading and unloading of each tank shall be done in a sanitary manner.
Single lengths of durable, non-toxic, flexible milk conductor tubing used for conveying milk from the farm tank to the transport tank shall not exceed 8 feet in length, except in those cases where adequate cleaning facilities are provided. When two lengths of tubing are used, they shall be coupled with a sanitary coupling. The open end of the milk tubing shall be capped except when loading or unloading.
All transport milk tanks, sanitary piping, plastic hoses, fittings and pumps shall be cleaned and sanitized at least once each day: Provided, That if they are not to be used immediately after emptying a load of milk, they shall be washed and cleaned promptly after use and given effective bactericidal treatment prior to re-use. After being washed and sanitized, each tank shall be identified by a tag attached to the outlet valve showing date, time, place and signature of person cleaning and sanitizing the tank. The tag shall not be removed until the first pickup of milk following such cleaning and sanitizing.
