The bulk milk tank shall not be located over the floor drain, or under a ventilator, and shall be located properly in the milk room for easy access to all areas for cleaning and servicing.

The tank shall be located so as to provide at least 6 inches of clearance between the floor and bottom of the tank, except that a 4 inch minimum clearance is acceptable if the bottom of the tank slopes upward to at least 6 inches in a horizontal distance of 12 inches, or if the tank is sealed to the floor in such a manner as to prevent the accumulation of milk, water, dust and the harborage of insects or rodents.

The truck approach to the milk room shall be graded properly and surfaced to prevent pooling of water at the point of loading. Adequate artificial light shall be provided to facilitate loading during hours when natural light is insufficient. This area shall be provided with a concrete slab, or other impervious surface of sufficient size to protect effectively the milk conducting hose from contamination.

Immediately after each farm tank is emptied, all milk contact surfaces shall be rinsed until visible solids are removed. Such surfaces shall be washed thoroughly and cleaned as soon as possible; prior to the next milking, such surfaces shall be exposed to at least 100 PPM of chlorine, or equivalent. In cases where farm tanks are equipped with removable drop pipes, a vat large enough for the washing and sanitizing of this equipment shall be provided in the milk room. Chemical sprayers are recommended for sanitizing farm tanks, and if utilized, shall be used for no other purposes.
