007.10.6-2. Bulk Tank Milk Room Requirements
Any producer using a farm bulk milk tank shall have a milk room in which the cooling and storing of milk and the cleaning, sanitizing and storing of milk containers and utensils shall be done. Such milk room shall not be used for any other purpose. The floor shall be constructed of concrete, or other impervious material, graded to drain properly and kept in good repair. The walls and ceiling shall be of such construction as to permit easy cleaning and shall be kept well painted or finished in an approved manner. All windows shall be screened for fly control and the doors shall be self-closing. The room shall be so constructed as to prevent the entrance of dust, dirt, flies or other pests or contamination, and shall have adequate light-and proper ventilation.
The milk room shall have a fixed, properly encased opening not less than 6 inches above the floor of the milk house, or the outside loading platform, whichever is higher. The opening to accommodate the milk conducting tubing used to pump the milk from the farm bulk tank to the tank truck shall not be less than 6 inches, nor more than 8 inches in size. The cover shall be tight-fitting and self-closing.
The milk room shall be provided with an electrical outlet for the milk transport pump and it shall be located in a water-proof receptacle on the outside of the milk room.
The milk room shall have an adequate, safe supply of water ready accessible, with facilities for heating the water to insure the cleaning and sanitizing of the bulk tank, utensils and equipment and keeping the milk room clean. Hoses for washing the bulk tank and milk room shall be used for no other purpose and shall be kept and maintained in a sanitary manner.
The milk room shall have adequate, evenly distributed artificial light, not placed directly over the tank, and shall be so located as to illuminate the cleaning of the milk room and equipment.
